The Color of the Soul

Place: The crossing of Jia He Rd. and Xin Yu Rd., Chang Ning district, Shanghai (the No.1 red five-pointed star in the sketch map)

Persons: The delivery man riding an electric car, the knocked-down aunt riding a bike, the black Dongfeng Peugeot car, the motor cyclist Louis.

The profile: 

1. Louis was waiting for the green traffic light on the crossing of Jia He Rd. and Xin Yu Rd. He saw an aunt was knocked down on the street, with a bike fell down near her, a man did not lift the aunt up, instead, he intended to run away by riding his electric car. According to Louis’ guess, the negotiation of this accident did not finish yet. Therefore, there are two possible situations to explain why the delivery man driving away with his electric car without lifting up the aunt: pull over or escape.

2. Louis found that the man did not have any intention to pull his car over, instead, he accelerated to run away. 30 meters away from the crossing, Louis decisively "break" the red light to catch up with him. Figure 2 shows that Louis was near the delivery man about 5 meters, and trying to catch his attention by whistling and throttling. This screenshot shows that the delivery man looked back (it proves that the noise has caught his attention). However, instead of slowing down to pull his car over, he still speeded up and pretended that nothing had happened.

3. Louis knew it clearly that the delivery man did this deliberately. Therefore, Louis maintained parallel to prevent the delivery man escape, and still whistled and throttle to remind him. The delivery man may be too nervous to find his way, feel guilty and did not dare to slow down (fear of taking responsibility if caught). He did not realize that the left lane road was blocked by Louis until a black Dongfeng Peugeot car with normal double jump light appeared in front of him where 300 meters away from the accident crossing. It was too late to brake, the delivery man hit the left rear tail of the car, and the rear wheel of his electric car was lifted up because of iterance, fortunately, he did not turn over. He turned left, with a ferocious expression and half a cigarette in his mouth, shouted to Louis why he blocked the left turning lane. (See figure 3) Louis loudly asked him why he escaped after knocking down the aunt. Suddenly, he made out an excuse of “having said to her to negotiate after pulling over”, with a painful and grieved expression. Louis asked him again, “Do you want to pull over 300 meters away? Or you were forced to stop? “He continued to beg for mercy by repeating the excuse above. At then, with passers-by have been gradually surrounded, and realizing that he could not ride his electronic car to escape, he got off reluctantly and kept silence to pretend to be pathetic. (Unfortunately, the motorcycle trip recorder did not shot his excellent acting).

 

Then things went simply: the police judged the delivery man full responsibility. Sentenced to pay the aunt for medical expenses, pay the Peugeot car driver for tail bumper scratch paint expenses, or conclude him escape, Louis did not know because he had left to Dongzhou after offering his telephone number to the policeman in need of the screenshot.

 

Thoughts of Louis:

1. Fortunately, I rode the motor car instead of driving car that day, or I could not catch the delivery man because the video supervision did not care the reason why I broke the red light.

2. People can be poor, but not poor to have the courage to admit mistakes; people can be ugly, but their soul cannot; people can make mistakes, but not attempt to play tricks to pass the test.

3. Such things happen every day, I do not know whether these delivery men, who are regardless of traffic lights in the name of hurry to deliver express packages, would feel happy if they escaped after causing troubles? I do not know what the difference is between this delivery man and many Chinese companies who copy the products of others, produce forged and fake commodities, and cheat customers every day.

4. Chinese people, especially those working hard ones, please, do not risk at your own lives, break the rules because of poverty, do not think money is everything. The “please” I said, may be too light to be heard, or may be blamed to have a broken brain. However, if most Chinese did not have any deep thinking about this new, I guess, it is not far from the perish of this nation.
