Sister Drum

An old song of Zhu Zhe Qin, which I am familiar with more than 20 years, suddenly walked into my heart through the program “Companion to the Dawn” hosted by radio host Ye Zi last night, and I finally know the story that the drum was made of the skin of Sister.

Mystical Tibet, and the people, culture, religions it bred. 

What kind of faith has such power to let parents sacrifice their children to worship Heaven, to express their respect? I, cannot understand for a short while. However, I still admire the superhuman power derived from such bloody faith.

Sister, your drum, I have heard it!

Like such music style, with some mystical power. Like is the power, is the initial force in the basic level, derived from the heart, presented by the form.

When, like to walk into the deep heart without any form of temptation or preach? I don’t know.

How, the source power of likeness can transfer into real actions and affect the present life? Not clear.

Sister, did not tell us the answer, but transmit a kind of sound field through a roll of drum and chant, as if she were saying “I am already here, would you come?”

 “Sister Drum”, in Tibatan cultural tradition, means a worship drum made of the skin of a virgin: human skin drum.

A lonely little girl lost her accompanied dumb sister, the little elder sister were lost, the younger sister started her trip to find her dumb sister, during which she met an old man and he told her six words mantra （Om mane padme hum），she continued to find, at the same time she heard the drum from the horizon, she understood this thing... ...

But she did not understand why Sister left home, she continued to think under she were at the same age as Sister, suddenly understood, perhaps it is the happiness of dream that took Sister away, and perhaps will take her who has grown up away.

“Sister Drum”, the three Chinese character are not poetic, even a little bit bloody cruel, “Sister Drum”was human skin drum, in Tibet, the drum can only be made of the skin of virgins. She was willing to sacrifice, so she was chosen.

“Om mane padme hum” these six Chinese characters were the six words mantra of Tibetan Buddhism and include everything in the world. In the heart of Tibetan, death is not horrible, it is similar to the birth of new life, is the return to nature. As a part of reincarnation, life and death is equal, only happiness and auspiciousness are the most important things. “A roll of drum from the horizon/ that was Sister in talking to me.”

Who is Sister? Childhood relatives? Why she did not speak since an early age? She was a god who came from heaven to man’s world to deliver the God’s willing of Buddhism and lead Tibetan people to survive continuously. So later, “I suddenly understand her”…

Actually, I think that dumb Sister was so eager to speak that she transferred her inner voice into drum. Only destined people can understand her.

Now, what ringing around my ears is the “Sister Drum”, but I cannot understand the “happiness” inside it, perhaps I am not the destined… But I clearly see the old man who is speaking the six word mantra with prayer wheel inside his hand……
